but what we make was inspired by a poem by one of my favorite writers, Gregory Orr. In my reading of this short poem, the speaker marvels at the creation of our world, then asks his readers to survey their own contribution to it. The sentiment is beautiful and beautifully stated, and though I cannot reprint that poem here I hope you’ll read it and all of Orr’s work. but what we make was commissioned by the Mustang Middle School Bands in Mustang, OK, and is directed to the band and their director, Chris Ozinga.
