Light Enough For Morning

While 9/11 is certainly the “where were you?” moment of my generation, our country’s response to that act (whether one falls in line with it politically or not) has come to represent the struggle that will define my peers as Vietnam and Korea did our parents and World War II did our grandparents. My aim in writing these songs was not to give a political opinion about the wars. Instead, I wanted to capture the more personal effects of these conflicts on those left behind. Therefore, the “speaker” in this song cycle is meant to be the wife or girlfriend of a soldier who is currently on active duty. Greg Loselle, a former teacher of mine, was gracious enough to provide this inspiring and fitting libretto for the project.
